Refund and Cancellation Policy
Last updated: June 18, 2026
This policy explains how to cancel a BlockDown Pro subscription, what happens when you do, and when you can get your money back. BlockDown is operated by Codex42 Inc., registered in Canada.
Try BlockDown before you pay
You do not have to pay to use BlockDown. The desktop app for Windows and macOS is free, works fully offline, and does not need an account. A free online account gives you up to 3 cloud documents in the browser. Pro costs $9 per month and adds the AI writer (generate, continue, summarize, improve), the spelling and grammar checker, unlimited cloud documents, and priority support. We suggest using the free options first, so you know the editor suits you before you subscribe.
How to cancel
You can cancel Pro yourself at any time. There is no cancellation fee and no need to contact us first.
- Sign in at app.blockdown.io.
- Open the Account page.
- Select Manage billing. This opens the secure Stripe billing portal.
- Select Cancel plan and confirm.
If you cannot reach the billing portal for any reason, email support@codex42.io from the address on your account and we will cancel it for you.
What happens when you cancel
- You keep all Pro features until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- You are not charged again. Cancelling stops the next renewal.
- At the end of that period the account moves to the free tier: the AI writer and the grammar checker stop working, and creating new cloud documents is paused until you are back down to 3 or fewer.
- Your documents are not deleted. Everything you wrote while on Pro stays in your account. You can still open, read and export your documents as Markdown or HTML, even if you have more than 3.
- The free desktop app keeps working exactly as before, with your local files untouched.
- You can subscribe again at any time from the Account page.
We do not delete documents because a subscription ended. Documents are only removed if you delete them, or if you ask us to close your account.
Refunds
If Pro turns out not to be right for you, contact us within 14 days of your first Pro payment and we will refund that payment in full.
To request a refund, email support@codex42.io from the email address on the account and tell us the date of the charge. You do not need to give a reason. We aim to reply within 2 business days.
Approved refunds are issued through Stripe to the original payment method. Banks normally show the money within 5 to 10 business days. Once a refund is issued, the subscription ends and the account returns to the free tier.
After that window, monthly renewal charges are not usually refunded, because you can cancel at any time before a renewal and still keep the rest of the period you paid for. We will still refund a renewal if you were charged after cancelling, if you were charged twice for the same month, or if Pro features were unavailable for a significant part of the period. Tell us what happened and we will put it right.
Renewals and reminders
- Pro is a monthly subscription. It renews automatically at $9 per month until you cancel.
- Stripe emails a receipt for every payment, so each charge is confirmed in writing.
- Your next renewal date is shown on the Account page and in the billing portal.
- Cancel before that date to avoid the next charge. Where local law requires notice ahead of a renewal, we will send a reminder by email before the payment is taken.
If a payment fails
If a card is declined, Stripe retries the payment over the following days and emails you so you can update your card. You can change payment details at any time from the Account page using Manage billing.
If the payment still cannot be collected, the subscription is cancelled and the account returns to the free tier. Your documents are not deleted. You can resubscribe whenever you are ready to switch Pro features back on.
Payments and card details
Subscriptions are billed through Stripe. Stripe stores your payment details and BlockDown never sees or stores full card numbers. Cancellations and refunds are processed through Stripe as well.
Your rights under consumer law
This policy is offered in addition to your statutory rights and does not replace them. If the law where you live gives you a stronger right to cancel or to a refund, for example a statutory cooling off period for digital services, that right still applies in full. Nothing on this page limits it.
